CAS CONCOS DES CAVALLER

Village on the country road Felanitx-Santanyí.

Its origins go back to the Obrador Conco family (16th century), who also gave name to the village of Cas Concos. Formerly, those lands formed the estate of La Galera; the name des Cavaller derives from the ancient area measure Caballeria.

The village itself developed from the manorial arrangement of the houses around the original oratory (1722). It expanded especially in the 19th century; in 1862 there were already schools for boys and girls; in 1867 the church was built as a rectory and in 1893 the Sisters of Charity founded a convent.

The fast expansion of the village required a development plan, which was designed by Pere d'Alcàntara Penya and approved in 1883. The Church of the Immaculate Conception (Inmaculada Concepción) has been the parish church since 1934 and is the most distinctive building in the village.

In 1941, a new development project was designed and in 1947 the town council named the streets. The town's main celebration is that of its patron saint, St. Nicholas of Tolentino (Nicolau de Tolantí), at the beginning of September.
