SON VALLS

This hamlet in the Felanitx township covers an area of approximately 9 km2 between Algorefa, Son Ramon and the townships of Porreres, Vilafranca de Bonany and Manacor. From the 13th to the 15th century, it was called Alqueria Padrina, acquired by the Valls de Padrina family in 1469, and divided by Bernat Valls in 1565. From then on, it is documented as Son Valls de Padrina or Son Valls de Padrinas.

In 1747, the estate had houses with a courtyard, a wine cellar, two stills, a treadmill, and an oratory dedicated Our Lady of the Rosary (Virgen del Rosario), later ceded to the diocese and declared public. When a new church was built in the area (1944-55), the old oratory was popularly named the Old Church. A few years earlier (1933), a school had been built. Since 1924, there had been a convent of the Sisters of Providence.

During the 19th and 20th centuries, there were constant divisions, establishments and sales, and the old place name of Son Valls de Padrinas was gradually replaced by the current name of Son Valls.
